Should I pick JPG or PNG?
For lots of photos or gradients, JPG; for mostly text, tables, and lines, PNG. PNG is crisp but larger.
Does a higher resolution make it sharper than the original?
If the document is text or vector, raising the resolution makes it sharper. But if the original is a low-resolution scan image, it only enlarges — the information doesn't increase.
Can I turn the converted images back into a PDF?
Yes, use the Image → PDF tool. Note that a round trip won't bring back the original's text information.
